Back from a break

Just back after four days mostly on the South West Coast path between Minehead and Woolacombe.  With something over 400 images to sort through it will be a day or two before I can get what I want on here and elsewhere but I thought I’d put on a taster for now.

Wednesday

The weather was good for the run up to Minehead and we stopped by Whimbleball reservoir and then at Dunster Beach.  We went to the start of the South West Coast Path (or finish depending on your perspective!) where there is an interesting sign.

We then went up North hill and walked around Selworthy Beacon.  After stopping at our B&B we caught some late light down on the beach at Bossington (top image) .

Thursday

The day dawned quite dull and really didn’t improve much.  We went to Porlock Weir first as we had been there before.  The previous evening in sunlight there were plenty of people there.  Today there were few, the sea and the light were very ‘flat’ as the image from Porlock Weir shows.

We then went to Dunster which had quite a lot of tourists despite some rain.  We headed over to Lynmouth and wandered around the seashore there for a while before walking around the Foreland and heading back to Porlock..

Friday

There was light rain when we got up and so we decided to head west.  For a while the rain was worse but we came out in better conditions and by the time we reached Woolacombe the rain had stopped although the light did not improve until we headed back later.

Woolacombe bay is a great beach and very popular with surfers.  I’d rather not be there in July and August but there were few people for a beach of that size when we were there.

We walked from here around Morte Point and then on to Bull Point and the lighthouse there.  We were fortunate to see seals just off Morte Point however they were not close enough to get any pictures of sadly.  Walking back to Mortehoe we found a lovely bracket fungus (although some better identification would be good!).

The light was clearing as we came back across Exmoor as seen here.

Saturday

We slipped down to Porlock Weir before breakfast to catch some early light.

The forecast was good so we planned to make the most of the day.  We got out as early as we could and headed to Bossington to walk from there up and around Selworthy Beacon before heading back.  The autumn light made for some strong clear colours.

We stayed in a good B&B in Porlock and would certainly go back there in the future – the breakfasts were very good
