Dartmoor AND snow

I’d been irritated at not having been able to get out on the moors with snow on the ground so far however I was lucky enough when I did get there.  Arriving on the moors at around 9am the sun was still low though bright and the snow had now started thawing yet.  The first road I got on I was glad I did not have to brake on.  It looked like a few people had been around the day before and played in the snow…

I parked and I set off towards Rippon tor and walked to the summit.  The light on the snow and the yellow grasses was simply lovely.  I was certainly the first person to have been on Rippon that day.  The views from the top were very good indeed.

After that I was down the northern side of the tor and headed to Saddle tor.  From there I walked over to Holwell tor and the old quarries there.  This brought me to Hey tor from the north and, from that side, it appeared deserted.  However by then it was nearly midday and the southern side had plenty of people on enjoying the snow.  Again the views from there were very good indeed.

I left Hey tor from the north again and headed back to the car retracing my steps.  It may have taken me a while to get out in the snow (it was the first time for a few years) however something over 100 acceptable images in around three hours in those conditions was a real reward.
