Waves on Blackpool Sands

We went down to Blackpool Sands on a mostly sunny day and I got quite a few shots there and, a little later, at Slapton.  The above is looking out over Start Bay – the combination of the light on the water and the cloud was great.

Changeable weather around Dawlish Warren

It was time to get back to the coast again after some nice walks on Dartmoor.  There was only one day in the week when the forecast was for good weather so we headed over to Dawlish Warren.  My last blog was from the summer of 2010 and is [...]

Ice on the Dart and frost on the beach

It was another bitterly cold night in Totnes with the temperature down to -6.3 deg C according to my thermometer (8/9 December 2010).  Not quite the lowest in the past couple of weeks but close and a hard frost everywhere. However there was a little sun and promise of more so [...]

Light on water

Having caught up with the backlog of the holiday snaps I started working on the relatively small number I’ve taken since I’ve been back and wondering about my next post.  These are not all taken on the same day but I realised that on a number of days I’d taken photos [...]

A stroll to Dawlish Warren

The start of the Summer holidays and the tourist season proper.  I was wandering towards the end of Dawlish Warren to catch the low tide at the point.  To get there I had to pass the main beach which had quite a few people on it enjoying the sun [...]

On the edge of the water

It has been raining quite a bit over the past few days and the ground on the moors would be very wet so, given a forecast of reasonable weather, I headed towards the coast.  The Little Egret seen above is not an uncommon species in the West Country these days but [...]

Kingsbridge and Torcross

The weather forecast was for sun… Never trust weather forecasts in the Westcountry! Heading for Kingsbridge last week and planning to head down towards Hope Cove for some coastal images it became obvious that the day was not going to be as forecast. Looking at the head of the estuary at [...]

A walk on the beach

The plan last week was to go to the city to do some shopping…  The forecast looked quite good – fortunately my partner is tolerant (and likes the coast too) so we headed off for a walk in some rare late Autumn sunshine.

The contrasts in light and colour [...]

Some views around Dartmouth

Ok well the above is from Dartmouth but as it looks out towards the open sea it is a useful one for context (and is a stitched panorama as well).  The town does have a very long history dating back to the time of the crusades (12th century) when it was [...]
