Again I was thinking that the really cold weather was over but today (Christmas Eve) I went over the Dart in Totnes early this morning and saw some ice again so I headed out a little later to walk the river bank with the camera.

I thought that the really cold weather was maybe over around Totnes by now (22 December 2010) but checking the thermometer this morning it had hit -6 deg C overnight. The minor road I live on has had little traffic so had some aspects of a skating rink but I’d arranged [...]
Rather a hasty one but given most of the hits on the blog in the last few days have been “snow” orientated and quite a few have been “Totnes” too here are some shots from the past few days. The top one is a few days ago on Vire Island.
Around 50% of the hits on this blog for the past week have had some variation of “dartmoor snow” in the search. In practice Devon has had very little of the snow that has been affecting the UK over that week. However some did fall in the past couple of days [...] This posting pre-dates the previous two in practice but I had not had a chance to work on the images I took until now. Just after the new year (but before the big snow) I drove up through the country (M5/M6). The previous night had seen some of the lowest temperatures. Close to Worcester [...] Today with very low temperatures in the UK and in the Westcountry (-14 deg C locally on the news and -7 deg C at my house overnight) I was not sure how far on to the moors I would be able to get. I had planned to go out with a friend however the [...] A couple of short walks today produced some nice pictures. Looking over Totnes towards the south of the moors gave me this one.
Looking up the River Dart at Totnes showed how cold it was last night. Bear in mind that the Dart is tidal and so salty at this point [...]
I’d been irritated at not having been able to get out on the moors with snow on the ground so far however I was lucky enough when I did get there. Arriving on the moors at around 9am the sun was still low though bright and the snow had now started [...] |
