Effectively this is a follow on from my previous post from the same day’s walk here. The photos in the previous one were orientated around the scenery on the day and this one covers some of the antiquities and remains in the Headland Warren area generally. In a sense this is “part 2″ of my previous post here. The images were all taken on the same day and, while showing quite a wild part of the UK, also indicate some of the ways the moors have been used over centuries. The work of man can be seen [...] I guess I was in a thoughtful mood while I was out today and the title of this occurred to me while I was driving up to the moors. We have had a few frosty mornings over the past few days (temperatures around -3 deg C) but this was the first [...] Again I was thinking that the really cold weather was over but today (Christmas Eve) I went over the Dart in Totnes early this morning and saw some ice again so I headed out a little later to walk the river bank with the camera.

It was another bitterly cold night in Totnes with the temperature down to -6.3 deg C according to my thermometer (8/9 December 2010). Not quite the lowest in the past couple of weeks but close and a hard frost everywhere. However there was a little sun and promise of more so [...]
Around 50% of the hits on this blog for the past week have had some variation of “dartmoor snow” in the search. In practice Devon has had very little of the snow that has been affecting the UK over that week. However some did fall in the past couple of days [...] I had not been out on the moors for far too long and the forecast was for some sun (how often have I worked on the basis of the weather forecast…). I headed for Two Bridges planning to walk up the east bank of the West Dart walking on the ridge above [...] A couple of short walks today produced some nice pictures. Looking over Totnes towards the south of the moors gave me this one.
Looking up the River Dart at Totnes showed how cold it was last night. Bear in mind that the Dart is tidal and so salty at this point [...] |
